Intumescent Paint
Intumescent paint is a reactive coating that swells and expands when exposed to high temperatures, like those of a fire, to protect buildings from fire damage. The word "intumescent" comes from the Latin word intumēscere, which means to swell or expand. The paint's chemical composition, which includes a binding polymer, blowing agent, and carbon, causes it to swell up to 100 times its original thickness, forming a dense, spongy layer that acts as an insulating barrier.
